If you’re thinking about joining the choir, or just curious to try out singing, you’re warmly invited to come along to a rehearsal. Here's what to expext.
Newcomers are welcomed by a “buddy,” who’ll be on hand to guide you through rehearsals, music, and introductions to fellow singers.
- Rehearsals are light-hearted but purposeful, led by our Musical Director to help everyone improve and grow in confidence.
- The choir sings in four voice sections, and the conductor will help you find the right part for your voice.
- We usually start with a warm-up, then full-choir singing, sometimes breaking into smaller groups for more focused sectional rehearsals.
- All music is provided.
- And finish on a high: as Opera North puts it "Singing makes you feel better."
“When I joined the choir, I was worried that my long-term health conditions might limit my ability to meet the choir’s expectations. But the breathing exercises and vocal warm-ups at rehearsals have proven extremely beneficial. Singing provides a therapeutic escape - improving my breathing and supporting my mental well-being. The camaraderie and shared purpose in the choir community have been truly uplifting.” - Frank
